Is it Thanksgiving yet?

Since the sun starting setting at what seems to be 3 in the afternoon every day, we at the smithstalker have been a little depressed.  Vitamin D deficiency, never-ending midterms and general stress have combined to make us feel a little down and we’re sure most of you are feeling the same way.  Here’s some events to get you over those mid-week and mid-semester blues.

ACADEMICS

  • The weekly science lectures continue in the McConnell Hall Foyer from 12:45 to 1:00!  This week Ileana Streinu will be asking “What is bio-geometric computing?”  That is a question that we, too, ask ourselves daily.  Check it out!
  • Interested in German movies?  Visiting Professor Brigitte Peucker will be lecturing on the film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant by director Rainer Werner Fassbinder.  Find it at 4:30 pm in Seelye 106.

WORKSHOP

  • Feeling stressed?  Haha!  Ha!  Heh.  Hm.  If you can find the time, go to the Dewey Common Room from 9:30 to 12:30 am for the “Ease the Pressure- Be More Effective” Workshop.  Talk about all those things you should be doing but don’t, such as time management and being productive.  We at the smithstalker are lost causes, but there may be hope for you!

Of course, for all of you first-years and sophomores looking to figure out your lives, there are the presentations of the majors/minors!  For today:

  • Italian Major/Minor: 4:15 pm in Hatfield 105; no mention of food 😦
  • Archaeology Minor: 12:15 pm in Hillyer Hall 103; Pizza and beverages served!

Also, if you haven’t seen the winners of Smith’s 2nd Annual International Photo Contest, look no further than here!  These works are really beautiful and all taken by Smith students abroad… definitely worth a look!
