Lots of events going on today for anyone interested in environmental sciences!  It’s also International Students Day, so make sure you give your non-U.S. friends lots of appreciation and/or hugs today!  Now, here’s what’s going on:

  • In McConnell 404 at 4 pm, Adria Updike ’03 will be speaking about “Exploring the Early Universe with Gamma Ray Bursts” as well as graduate school in Astronomy.  Neat!
  • Cindy Van Dover, Director of the Duke Marine Lab, will be speaking in McConnell 103 at 4:00 pm about “Deep-Sea Gold Rush: Understanding the Environmental Impact of Mining Seafloor Hot Springs”.
  • Thinking about pursuing environmental students beyond Smith?  The Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies is hosting an informational session at 12:15 to 1:00 pm in Bass Hall 102.  Talk comes with free lunch!

  • Smith Dems and Smith Repubs are hosting Maine State Rep. Alex Cornell du Houx, who will be talking about  “Operation Free”, a program which supports clean energy as a national security issue.  Find him at 7:00 pm in Campus Center Room 103/104. There will be food!

  • For only $1.00, you can get your hands on some delicious bubble tea this Monday in the CC basement!  What is bubble tea?  It’s made from various types of tea mixed with large chewy tapioca pearls at the bottom that absorb flavor.  You should try it, if you’ve never had it before!  They’ll also be pre-selling tickets for CISCO’s Hot Pot Night for $5.00. Find them there from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Run on down to the International Students Day Celebration this Monday from noon to 2:00 pm in the
Campus Center Carroll Room!  For about $1.00-3.00 each meal, you get to try a range of delicious foods from around the world.  As you know, anything that promotes good food gets the Smith Stalker thumbs up!  Check out their facebook event page right here.
