The End of the Internet

Dinner Dinner

Chapin and Morrow/Wilson have breakfast for dinner.  Anything better?  I THINK NOT.

Room Change

The Fucking with Gender workshop going on at 8:00 pm tonight has now MOVED to the Carroll Room in the Campus Center… tell your friends!

Happy December!

It’s the last month of the year, and with it comes cold and snow!  Well, not yet, but pretty soon.  Celebrate with sushi night at Comstock/Wilder…. the rolls never have enough filling, but hey, it’s free sushi, so stop complaining.  And with miso soup, how could any meal be better?  Get there early, because there’s going to be a huge line!

Don’t miss out on the workshop on Trans Activism, going on from 6:30 to 8:30 pm!  They’ll be talking about issues relating to trans and gender non-conforming students.  There will be guest speakers from Translate Gender.  Find it in the Resource Center for Gender and Sexuality in the basement of Wesley tonight.

There’s a lot going on about gender and sex at Smith this week (but isn’t there always?).  Here’s a quick line-up of what to expect (don’t worry, we’ll still feature these events in our daily events posts!)

Wednesday, Dec 2

  • 7:00 pm: “Gender and Diversity at Smith: A Fireside Chat” (Goldstein Lounge in the CC)

Thursday, Dec 3

  • 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm: “Fucking With Gender: An interactive workshop on gender expression, identities, labels, transcending the mutually exclusive binaries, queer culture, and hot sweaty sex.”, with guest speaker Sinclair Sexsmith (link NSFW).  (Resource Center For Sexuality and Gender)

Okay, there’s not a lot of variation tonight, just lots of NACHOS!  Cheap and easy to make; you can see why Smith made this choice (not that we’re complaining).  Enjoy!

Today is the 11th annual Transgender Day of Awareness, a day created to commemorate transgendered and genderqueer people who have died in the past because of bigotry and hatred.  The Smith vigil was last night, but still take some time to commemorate those who have died and to raise awareness about the violence faced by people who are transgendered worldwide.

Okay, guys, so I’m kinda exhausted right now.  Instead of giving you all an elaborate events points, I’m just going to tell you what looks particularly interesting.  Here you go!

What’s Mud Got to Do with It: Botany, Cultural History, and the Ideology of a Flower

  • Visiting professor Xiaofei Tian will be speaking about the cultural significance of the lotus in Chinese literature.  4:30 pm in Seelye 106.

Fall Faculty Dance Concert

  • The title says it all.  8:00 pm in Theatre 14 of Mendenhall
  • This sounds intense so I wrote the title in all-caps.  You’ll find it from 7:00-11:00 pm in the Goldstein Lounge of the CC.
Solar Observation
  • Think about the sun!  Look at the that fiery blazing thing in the sky without impairing your vision.  Campus center lawn, 11:30 am – 1:00 am.
  • Didn’t catch it opening night?  You have two more shows to go!  Davis Ballroom, 8:00 pm, $5 for students (and $7 for everyone else).  Be sure to bring extra money for delicious, delicious baked goods!

Breakfast for Dinner!

You know you want it.  Just go to Chapin or Morrow/Wilson and chow down…  yum!   Includes Cheddar Cheese Quiche and Buttermilk Pancakes.

If you’re up late doing work, it probably is.  So head on down to Smith FML to air your grievances, mess-ups, etc.  Neat!
